Judihui, we did it!

Debby

Ich wird langsam erwachse *smile*. Täglich gönned mir üs en Energydrink, en Iskaffi. Mhhh, mega lecker. (Obwohl jo gwüssi Lüt behaupted, da seg kei Kaffi *smile*).
Slowly but surely I'm becoming an adult. Daily we enjoy an energy drink, an iced coffee. Mhhh, very delicious. (I know, some people think, that this doesn't count as a coffee *smile*).

Finally again a few lines from my life here in Cambodia. And just one thing ahead, no, I'm not board. So many friends wrote me in the last couple of days and asked me, if I'm not bored here in Phnom Penh and they were curious about what I'm doing here all day long *smile*.

During the last two weeks I daily helped Tim, one of Simi's friends, in his studio. Tim, Jessica (his wonderful wife) and his three adorable boys are already nearly my second home here *smile*. I've spend at there place so many hours the last few days. We started in the morning and finished, when the light was bad, just after the sunset. Yesterday we've completed the last couple of pieces. Judihui,...finally, but just in time *smile*. Tomorrow we will start to hang them up for the upcoming art festival here in Phnom Penh. I experienced two very interesting weeks. Not only because of the bike ride to the work place every morning, which for me is still daily a huge adventure, but also because I've learned so many things of Tim. He mostly works with a technique which is called encaustic. For me this was absolutely new ground, I've never worked like this before, but I really love it. I'm very inspired and I'm already looking forward to create my one pieces in my dad's workshop back home. But firstly I'm looking forward to the following 3 days were we will hang up all the awesome pieces, so the exhibition will be ready at the opening night the upcoming Thursday. I'm so excited.

As soon as the city festival will have started, I'll put some of Tim's pieces on my blog. Till than you have to be patient.

Wish you an awesome January.
Love debby

9. Kambodscha: Happy New Year

Liebe Familie, liebe Freunde!

Dear friends! I hope all of you meanwhile arrived safely in year 2014. I wish you all a great year, lots of positive surprises and special moments. May God bless you all.

I've just realized, that I'm already in Cambodia since two weeks. Yes, time flies. So many things already happened since I'm here. We had a great Christmas party with the small group of Simon. It was funny, especially because he wasn't the only person I knew. Yes, what a small world. As well we had some invitations of Simon's friends, where we went for dinner and played games. I also had the chance to spend some very realxing days in Kampot and New Year we celebrated on a boat on the Mekong. Lot of moments are filled too with stunning about the great culture here. It often takes a lot of my attention. But it's just great to realise, that there are so many different ways in doing things, and Debby's way is not the only right one.

It was still the year 2013 when I've asked Simi, if I could stay at his place a little longer. I feel very comfortable here, really like it and don't want to pack all my belongings pretty soon again.

Yes, and since a few days, I'm having a "job" again. A friend of Simon, who I met the other day for playing games, is an artist. Soon he'll have an exhibition and is way behind with his pieces, so he asked me, if I could help him. For sure I took this opportunity. It's so great, I love the work in his studio and it's very interesting to learn the way he works.

So I'm still on the way, and daily looking forward to whatever God has ready for me.

9. Kambodscha: judihui, thurgauer Dialekt / judihui my home dialect

A tuktuk brought me from the airport to the city center, where I met Simi. It was great to hear some familiar dialect from home *smile*. When I drove through the streets it felt like the traffic moved much slower than in Manila. Everything seemed to me very relaxed and peaceful. No horning. All the vehicles; be it a car, a tuktuk, a motorbike or a bicycle, everything has more or less the same speed.

But already at the second day I got to experience the traffic from another perspective. Simon took me to my first bicycle ride in Phnom Penh, which was quite an adventure. There are anyway so many things, which make me stun here, what makes riding a bike for me much harder than back home. I had to concentrate very hard, not to lose Simon. Not only because of the road conditions, but also the not-following-any-rules attitude, where quite challenging for me. I learned very fast, that I wasn't aloud to obey all the rules. It literally would be dangerous if I did. I didn't have any other chance, than to except the system here. Even though this was hard for me. I'm just not used to break rules like for example cross a red light.

When I'm on the road with Simi, I feel like "Where's Wally?". I try to follow Simi and not to lose sight of him in all this traffic. As if this wouldn't be hard enough he sometimes takes off his pullover while waiting for me somewhere. Even for people who don't know him, it's easy to tell from which country he's coming from. As one of the best and fastest bike riders here in Cambodia, he uses the different road users (cars and trucks included) as slalom rods and sidles through all the traffic *smile*.

8. Malaysia: Kuala Lumpur

I had a few hours between Manila and Kuala Lumpur (with a stopover in Singapore) to recall the last three months. I was just thankful that I had the chance to experience such an awesome time.

In Kuala Lumpur Shonna came and picked me up at the airport together with her dad. Just a few minutes after I could stun about the skyline of KL, which looked to me like out of a fairytale. It was so amazing.

I know Shonna from the time on the Doulos. It was very spontaneous that I stopped four days in KL. I thought that she would be in New Zealand during this time of the year, where she studies and lives. But because of Christmas, she was home with her family. When she wrote me that, I didn't hesitate and planned to stop in KL for a few days. This is how it turned out, that I had once more a great tour guide. I enjoyed exploring the city with her, go and eat at very hidden places, experience a different hair removal *smile* and have a walk on her backyard mountain, where monkeys play in the treetops. As well I loved to go to the local market. To soak in all the different colors, the smells and the variety of products is always a big adventure for me. What was very special and fun too, was just to sit together with Shonna and her family and eat by hand. I loved it *smile*.

But the biggest gift for me, was just the fact, that I could see Shonna again. It was so great to catch up. Also it was a huge pleasure to get to know her parents, who were very hospitable. I've enjoyed the interesting conversations with them a lot.

Many thanks for the unforgettable stay in KL.
